Welcome to Carla’s 2024 Gift Guide, brought to you by the five elements of flavor, Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, and Umami. I’m dropping five gifts ideas every day this week, one category at a time.

How will I extrapolate these flavors to real things that you can give to other people? Do you doubt me? No? Good. Let’s go.

First up: SWEET. Outside of the obvious flavor associations, “sweet” to me is red, pink, bows, puppies, candy, love and lovers, sentimental stuff, thoughtfully personal stuff, and also sweet aromas.
