Hello Comrades!
Are you wondering what a T-shirt has to do with food? I figured. It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about my recipe or cookbook process, and this is not and will never be a fashion blog. But: Book Three (still don’t have a title lol) is going to include lots of photos of me getting into it in the kitchen, going shopping, walking Margie, picnicking at the beach, and lying around my house with various plates of food perched on my chest. As soon as I started discussing props with my sister, Nina Lalli (she’s a ceramicist, but prop styled both of my books!), we realized that I needed to think about my clothes as an extension of the props.
Well, I don’t want to think about what I wear. I want to wear a uniform. I have always wanted to wear a uniform, and when I was a line cook, wearing a uniform was one of the highlights. Shoot days are hectic! Fun, but hectic. We are shooting at my house. The call time will be early. I like to have a nice little breakfast set up for the crew when they get there. All of this is a challenge, because I am a night owl and an all-time champion snoozer. I’d rather spend whatever time I have putting on a little makeup, which leaves zero time for getting dressed and guarantees a clothing freakout.
